IE Faculty Chair Holders Present at UP COE Professorial Chair Colloquium

Posted on: May 5, 2017

Last November 7 and November 11, 2016, for two hours each day, as part of the 13th Professorial Chair Colloquium, the College of Engineering held simultaneous lectures by its Professorial Chair grantees in various venues in Melchor Hall and the Engineering Complex. The UP IE senior faculty gave presentations on their most recent researches at the Beta Epsilon Multimedia Hall.

Last November 7, Dr. Aura C. Matias kicked off the series with her paper entitled ‘Ensuring Patient Safety in the Design of Technologies’. She was followed by Dr. Iris Martinez with her paper on ‘Modeling Client Demand for Personal Services Industries For Better Service Supply Planning’. The third presentation was by UPIEAA board secretary and DIEOR Chair Asst. Prof. Lowell L. Lorenzo, who had a lively discussion on ‘Minimizing Makespan in a Class of Two-Stage Chain Reentrant Hybrid Flow Shops’. And finally, last but not least was the paper by Asst. Prof. Bennette P. Custodio, holder of the UPIEAA Chair, on the topic ‘Self-Reported Body Discomfort of Small Scale Gold Miners in the Philippines’.

Then on November 11, another four presentations were given by four IE faculty. First off was Dr. Eugene Rex L. Jalao on ‘A Framework for Call Center Decongestion Using Sequential Pattern Analysis’. He was followed by Prof. Edgardo G. Atanacio, former COE dean, who presented ‘The Design and Development of EnggEconAssist, an Engineering Economics Software Tool. The third speaker was Asst. Prof. Adeline A. Pacia, who presented the ‘UP NEC Performance Management System Using Balanced Scorecard’. Prof. Nestor O. Raneses was the fourth and final speaker, who gave a summary of the paper ‘System of Systems: Integrated Sustainable Climate Resilient, Energy and Environmental Reference Model for Climate Change Vulnerable Enterprises (ISCREEM)’.

Each year, all professorial chair grantees give a lecture at the College Colloquium on the topic the she or he proposed at the beginning of the appointment. The papers for the lectures are submitted to either the Philippine Engineering Journal or the NEC-COE bulletin for publication.

Although chair donors, alumni, and the general public are invited, for both days, unfortunately, it was a lean crowd, with a smattering of students, other faculty, and only one or two alumni. For both days, upon the invitation of Dean Babylin de Leon, only UPIEAA President Bing del Rosario attended on behalf of the alumni. For day 2, November 11, he was accompanied by wife and fellow IE alum Elise del Rosario.
