Jeng Pascual named ING-FINEX CFO of the Year
The country’s institution of financial executives, the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX), together with ING, a global financial institution, have recognized the finance director of Shell Philippines Exploration BV, Jose Jerome “Jeng” Pascual III, as the “chief financial officer” of the year, an award given annually to the country’s best corporate finance head. Jeng Pascual, a UP IE alumni, batch 1986, is the finance director and country controller of Shell Philippines Exploration BV.
“As CFOs, we have been entrusted by our shareholders to grow their investment in the company,” Pascual said during his acceptance speech as the CFO of the year.
“The management of financial risks, and integrity of financial reporting are the bread and butter of the CFO. It is crucially important for the CFO to ensure that robust internal controls and financial processes are in place. Whether these processes are operated in-house or offshored, the CFO must always get it right,” he further said.
The finalists for the award were decided by the Search and Selection Committee, while the sole winner was chosen by the Board of Judges, which includes Philippine National Bank chairman Florencia Tarriela, Securities and Exchange Commission Chairperson Teresita Herobsa; ING Bank N.V country manager Consuelo Garcia, among others.
Four major criteria namely the CFO’s performance in terms of good governance, compliance and corporate social responsibility; his reputation and stature as a CFO; his contribution to the fulfillment of the strategic objectives of his organization; and his excellence in stewardship served as the basis in the judging period.
In 2013, the same award was given to GMA Network Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe Yalong, while the CFOs of some of the country’s giant firms such as SM Prime Holdings, Inc., Ayala Land, Inc., SM Investments Corp. and Ayala Corp. also bagged the award in the previous years.
