UPIEAA Holds Workshop for IE Seniors on Behavioral Competencies Used by Corporate Recruiters

Competencies-Workshop-photoLast August 24, 2015, the UPIEAA conducted a “Behavioral Competencies RCTLCL Workshop” from 2 to 5PM at the Beta Epsilon Audiovisual Room of the College of Engineering, as part of its Industry-Academe Linkage Program, in cooperation with the IEOR Department. IEAA Director Frederick Lopez, UPIE’76 and Business Resiliency Consultant of the PHINMA Group of Companies, conducted the workshop for 20 senior IE students. Department Chair Lowell Lorenzo delivered the opening remarks to welcome the workshop participants.

The Objectives of “RCTLCL” Behavioral Competencies Workshop were as follows:

1.To introduce the six “RCTLCL” Behavioral Competencies to UPIE seniors and   graduating students, namely: Results-Oriented, Customer Focused, Team-Oriented, Leading by Example, Communicating Effectively, and Learning Continuously.

2.To give participants a better understanding of how HRD practitioners select new graduates for hiring, in order to prepare them better for future employment opportunities with.

3.To run an initial self-assessment of the current behavioral competencies of each participant to be able to determine their own personal strengths and weaknesses.

4.To guide the participants in preparing future action plans in improving their organizational behavioral competencies to enable them to strengthen their weaknesses and prepare better for their eventual graduation and future employment.

The half-day workshop included the profiling of the participants to make the discussions more interactive. A week before the actual workshop, RCTLCL Behavioral Competencies Assessment Forms were distributed to all the participants to hasten the learning and understanding of the six RCTLCL Behavioral Competencies. A Workshop Expectations Sheet was also be filled up and submitted to the IEOR Department, 3 days before the actual workshop.

During the workshop, participants were divided into groups representing each competency. A secretary and a presentor were nominated prior to the Break Up Sessions where each group worked as a team to present their Action Plans and rankings of the 6 Behavioral Competencies. At the end of the session, an evaluation form was filled up by all participants to get feedback on the way the workshop was conducted and to get suggestions on how to improve future sessions.  Individual Certificates of Attendance were distributed to each participant signed by the facilitator and Professor Lowell Lorenzo.
