UPIEAA’s 2016 Alumni Homecoming is Launchpad for ACHIEVERS Program

Three  years ago, the UPIEAA board in its wisdom decided to hold the alumni homecoming every two years, on the even years. So there had been sufficient time to prepare for the 2016 homecoming, scheduled for October 22, 2016. This included the usual date, timing, and program finalization, assignment of invitations, coordinating with the IE reps for registration support, drinks and food, raffle prizes, calls, texts and e-mails, etc.

The actual evening homecoming dinner was at the Maynilad Room which was able to accommodate the 65 UPIE alumni who graced the event. The evening was marked by the UPIEAA President’s Report by Bing del Rosario, the State of the Department Report by Chair Lowell Lorenzo, the election of directors, and the raffle.

The food contractor was Engg-regular Lai’s Catering. Food donations included two lechons by Bing del Rosario; and a San Miguel beer keg by Ricky Banaag.

The homecoming was also used by the board to formally launch the ambitious IE ACHIEVERS program that would seek to raise significant funds to allow the AA to provide regular financial assistance grants to students and young faculty who have a hard time making ends meet. Dante Briones, IE 82, and pitchman for UPAE’s Study Now Pay Later program, consented to lead the pledging session for ACHIEVERS. By the end of the night, UPIEAA had over P400,000 in pledges from the people – and their barkadas – in the room.
